A couple of months ago I would have never thought we’d sell Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure while signing just one player, a centre back, in the entire transfer window. With a day and a half left in the transfer period those are the only alterations to Arsenal’s squad, and at this stage it looks like it will remain that way.

Arsenal v Celtic

Arsenal will host Scottish giants Celtic tonight in the second leg of their Champions League qualification tie. The Gunners will hold a two-goal advantage heading into the match after an own-goal from Gary Caldwell and an inadverted William Gallas finish saw them run out 2-0 victors at Celtic Park last week.

Arsenal host Portsmouth today in the Gunners’ first home game of the new campaign. Paul Hart’ Pompey side will be searching for their first win of the season after suffering a 1-0 deafeat at home to Fulham on the opening day of the season and losing at Birmingham City midweek. Arsenal will be looking to continue their rich vein of early-season form after flogging Everton 6-1 last weekend and following that up with a 2-0 away win over Celtic in the Champions League.

An inadverted William Gallas strike and a Gary Caldwell own goal saw Arsenal run out 2-0 winners at Parkhead and take control of their Champions League tie. The Gunners thought they had taken the lead eleven minutes in, but Andrey Arshavin’s close-range shot was ruled out for offside. William Gallas then put his side ahead when a Cesc Fabregas shot richocheted off the back of the Frenchman and flew into the net. Gary Caldwell then scored an own-goal in the 71st minute to give the Gunners a massive advantage heading into next week’s second leg.
