Match Preview: Arsenal v Standard LiegePosted by: Aidan in Arsenal, Champions League, Match Previews
Belgian side Standard Liege travel to North London this evening to take on a high-flying Arsenal outfit. The Gunners will be looking to regain the momentum that they look to have lost due to the international break, and also aiming to seal qualification for the Champions League knock-out stage. The Gunners currently sit comfortable at the top of Group H after four matches, and need just a point from their remaining two games to progress.
The interlull has been driving me mental, and I couldn’t help but jump the gun a little bit and stick this weekend’s match preview up a little early. Our beloved Gunners will travel north to Sunderland tomorrow to take on Steve Bruce’s men at The Stadium of Light. The Black Cats have been performing slighty above expectation thus far this season, and sit in a respectable eight place in the Premiership. Arsenal, meanwhile, sit five points off first position with a game in hand.

Squad must stay strong in wake of recent injury woesPosted by: Aidan in Arsenal, Arsène Wenger, Eduardo, Robin van Persie
When Robin van Persie was stretchered off ten minutes into The Netherlands’ friendly against Italy on Sunday I, like many other Gooners, feared the worst. Just as Arsenal’s talismanic striker was hitting his straps and finally building towards a truly injury-free season, he was scythed down by defender Giorgio Chiellini and left in a crumpled heap.
When Wimbledon Football Club dissolved in 2004, Arsenal picked up three promising youngsters from the Dons’ academy. Midfielder James Dunne, defender Abu Ogogo and then-winger Kieran Gibbs all joined the Gunners on youth terms. Five years later and only one of those players ever went on to make an appearance in an Arsenal shirt. |
