
When Wimbledon Football Club dissolved in 2004, Arsenal picked up three promising youngsters from the Dons’ academy. Midfielder James Dunne, defender Abu Ogogo and then-winger Kieran Gibbs all joined the Gunners on youth terms. Five years later and only one of those players ever went on to make an appearance in an Arsenal shirt.

Tomas Rosicky limped off the pitch at The Emirates Stadium in an FA Cup match against Newcastle United on January 26, 2008. In his post-match press-conference, manager Arsene Wenger described Rosicky’s injury as “not serious”, but rather “strange”.

There were mixed fortunes for Arsenal’s international stars this week in the latest FIFA International Break. Croatia striker Eduardo was the only Arsenal player to find the back of the net for his country, while Theo Walcott did not take the field for England. Luckily no players were injured on the international break, apart from Johan Djourou who returned to Arsenal prior to playing.

I didn’t post my expletive-laden match report of the weekend’s Villa fixture due to it consisting of largely incoherent ramblings concerning quite a few members of the Arsenal squad. Whilst most of the criticism was warranted, I think I went a bit over the top in parts. I try to distance myself from posting articles written in the heat of the moment, and yesterday was one of those moments.
Most of the Arsenal squad will now be preparing for the mini-international break which shall take place midweek. The table below ourlines who will be playing for who, who they are playing against and if they are likely to start.

Best of luck for all the Arsenal players representing their countries this interlull. As I’m very much club over country, I hope first and foremost that all of the Arsenal players simply come through their matches unscathed. Though what’s the bet that Robin van Persie picks up some sort of injury?
