
A couple of months ago I would have never thought we’d sell Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure while signing just one player, a centre back, in the entire transfer window. With a day and a half left in the transfer period those are the only alterations to Arsenal’s squad, and at this stage it looks like it will remain that way.

It is customary that a bevy of Arsenal stars are linked with other clubs during the transfer window, and this summer has been no exception. I try my best to ingore these rumours as the vast majority of them are completely unfounded pieces slapped together with them main aim of selling papers or grabbing internet hits.

French outfit St. Etienne have readied themselves for the departure of midfielder Blaise Matuidi after purchasing a ready-made replacement in the form of former Manchester City player Gelson Fernandes. Matuidi’s departure is now imminent with Arsenal touted as the Frenchman’s most likely destination.

One of Britain’s few respected football journalists, Gabriele Marcotti, has claimed that Fiorentia’s Felipe Melo is on his way to Arsenal. Speaking to sports radio station talkSPORT last night, Marcotti tipped Brazil midfielder Melo to join the Gunners at the conclusion of the Confederations Cup.
