Player Ratings: Arsenal v Olympiakos

Arsenal 2 (van Persie 78, Arshavin 86) – Olympiakos 0
Match Report | Highlights
Vito Mannone – Looked far more confident heading into the match with the display against Fulham under his belt. Couldn’t equal those heroics last night as he did not have much to do. Made one brilliant save off a corner, and that was about it. 7
Emmanuel Eboue – Much more comfortable at right back than on the right wing. Had very little to do defensively but still kept himself occupied with a number of marauding runs down the right touchline. Confident performance. 8
William Gallas – Had very little to do as Olympiakos simply parked the proverbial bus right across the Emirates pitch. On the rare occasion that he was called into action, Gallas comfortably dealt with anything the opposition could muster. 7
Thomas Vermaelen – Same as above. 7
Gael Clichy – Slowly improving, though could take a page out of Eboue’s book in terms of getting forward a bit more (never thought I’d say that). Confidently handled everything Olympiakos threw at him, which to be fair wasn’t much. Still, solid. 7
Cesc Fabregas – Was the standout in either midfield, orchestrating almost all of his side’s moved. His passing radar was spot on last night and his work rate must have been massive. Finishing needs improvement, though. 8
Alex Song – Did well once again, working hard off the ball to stop any of Olympiakos’ rare advances. Pushed forward quite a bit as he had plenty of space in midfield, however these forward runs (while they were the right idea) did not pay dividends. 7
Abou Diaby – Got better once he pushed forward late on in the game, but up until then he was largely mediocre. Mostly ineffective throughout the match, and looked very awkward and out of place compared to the likes of Fabregas, Arshavin and Rosicky. 6
Andrey Arshavin – Vast improvement on the weekend’s performance. He worked hard throughout the match and it paid off with his late goal. He may have been offside but the lead-up play and the finish were reminiscent of the Arsenal of old. Classy performance. 8.5
Robin van Persie – Was very lively throughout the match and worked his socks off up front. Could have had a couple of others if he had better finishing and a bit of luck. Took his goal well and will no doubt be high on confidence. 7.5
Tomas Rosicky – Ran out of steam late on which is completely understandable, but played well in the earlier stages of the match. Complemented Fabregas extremely well and showed the craft and guile that we all missed while he was out. Solid performance. 7.5
SUBSTITUTES
Eduardo – Nice Assist. 7
Vela – 6.5
Ramsey – Nice work in the lead-up to the second goal. 7

song was man of the match deserved a 9
Agree, Song was top class yesterday-never lost the ball.
So Eboue gets an 8 mainly cause he didn’t do any mistakes not because he deserved an 8 though. Clichy was better than him so not sure what game you were looking at and he did get forward a lot. Arshavin may have been lively at the end once we were a goal up, but there were stages of the game in which he looked disinterested and slow.
Alex Song was the MAN of the Match .he really deserved at list 9
thanks guys..i tot i was the only one watching……..SONG was just singing for olympiakos, and they were dancing tru-out.
I really like Song and think he’s massively improved. Yet again, he was rock solid for much of last night’s game but missed a few tackles and lost the ball in dangerous positions late in the game before Arshavin’s decisive second goal. For that reason, I wouldn’t go along with those nominating him MOM – as good as he’d been before that.
u crazy? eboue was marvelous. did u see how he would cut in and dribble to the box and pass to van persie? can clichy accelerate and dribble the way eboue does? all players had a good game except diaby.
Diaby played below par,Alex was realy man of the match.
Diaby has been the worst player so far this season. Loses so many balls, I wonder why Wenger keeps starting him!
notice how many times Arshavin ran back and won the ball in our own half?
It was great to see from him, but what disappointed me was how RVP,CESC, and co didn’t seem as bothered.
Fantastic game, wonder what diaby is still doing in dat team, too slow.Kudos my prof

Diaby was just the worst… Everyone else 8.5 for their performances… Diaby… 3… just awful…
I like Diaby a lot but his performance from the begining of the season is very poor we must have more cofidence in him.ALEX SONG the man.
song the nam….hes the difference this seasom….Massive….
weve solved the biggest problems in our team…CB n DM….we hav world class players in Vermaelen n Song playing n tht positions….
IF WE KICK OUT DIABY from 1st eleven we can win against anybody….
Diaby is a negative influence on the whole team…I wonder how he get on Wengers list wen even the worst player in ma sunday morning team plays better…
When the big games come round this season, Arsenal will need to show more belief than they showed last season. Especially Bendtner, Diaby, Clichy and RvP. They are all a bit boyish still so they need to focus and become more polished, effective players.
Since guys we are stuck with Diaby, I guess its high time we rally behind him. Lets give him the support that he needs! Its just the beginning of the season, lets see it goes, though i must admit he is currently a mediocre and a weak link in the Arsenal team. Lets try to give him just a little bit of our support. Don’t you think so? I guess the rest of the team was top class!
