Player Ratings: FC Porto v Arsenal

FC Porto 2 (Fabianski o.g. 10, Garcia 52) – Arsenal 1 (Campbell 18)
Match Report | Highlights
Lukasz Fabianski – You could put it down to a lack of match practice but that would be too kind. From the disastrous own goal to the idiotic handball and subsequent goal, this was a completely diabolical performance. He was the sole reason we conceded today, and I’d like to think that Almunia (despite his faults) would not have made either of those rookie mistakes. 1
Bacary Sanga – Didn’t get forward as much as he would have liked from right back, most probably because he knew he’d be offered little to no protection from Tomas Rosicky. It was still a solid performance, as he was busy in defence all match and still managed to hold firm. 6.5
Sol Campbell – Not at fault for the second goal – Fabianski should have known better than to pick up the back pass. Took his goal well, and enjoyed a solid performance that was undone by horrific goalkeeping. 6.5
Thomas Vermaelen – Looked a little bit underdone out there, and you can tell he is carrying an injury. He was uncharacteristically hesitant when tackling, and also lacked conviction when doing so. Struggled to contain Falcao also at times, but somehow got by. 6
Gael Clichy – Not going to keep his spot once Gibbs returns to fitness. The manner in which he was turned inside out in the lead-up to the opening goal pretty much summed up his performance. He was bombarded down the left flank and failed to cope with Porto’s attack. 4
Denilson – Rather anonymous out there tonight. Didn’t really do anything wrong but not that much right either. He sprayed around the odd simple pass and held his position in midfield but that was about it. Failed to make an impact over the course of 90 minutes. 5
Abou Diaby – Was about as effective as Denilson, but unlike the Brazilian, Diaby did put effort in. Unfortunately not much went right for him today as his passing was sub-par and he held on to the ball for far too long at times. Did show some drive and dynamism in the midfield but unfortunately it wasn’t enough. 6
Cesc Fabregas – It was obvious that he was the most talented player on the pitch. When he did get a rare moment to shine he made the most of it, spraying around long-range passes with perfect accuracy and causing havoc with his movement off the ball. Unfortunately these moments were few and far between as Porto attempted to kick holes through the Arsenal captain. 6.5
Tomas Rosicky – Solid out there today in parts, but at other times rather anonymous. Left Sagna exposed at right back, and was defensively suspect. Offensively he was effective, setting up Campbell’s goal with a neat header and drawing a foul in the box that was somehow ignored. 6.5
Nicklas Bendtner – Was little more than a physical presence up front today. He used his body well and held up the ball, providing a rare focal point for the Arsenal attack, and he was effective aerially, but once the ball got on the ground he struggled. Faded away in the second half, too. 6
Samir Nasri - Decision making was poor as was his distribution. He’d either make the wrong pass or execute the right one poorly. Seemingly gave up in the second half and decided to kick everyone. It was a shame though, as he was all over his defender Fucile. 5
SUBSTITUTES
Walcott – 5
Vela, Eboue – N/A.

1 was a little flattering.
Mayb 0 or -1 was more realistic.
Expect Mannone to start on Saturday.
Also denilson is good as Ramsay.
Plz play him more Mr Wenger.
i ment is not as good sorry.
harsh on diaby he helped out defensively and was very helpful in protecting sagna. wenger was q victim of his terible dicision making again why walcott was brought on early is un undersatdable when eboue and ramsey were fit and ready to go… what does ramsey have to do to get more gameS HE ALWAYS performs well… and eboue always good of the bench… if wenger is more worried about walcotts match fitness rather than the good of the team send him to th fcuking reserves
Just about right on the ratings. But I thought Clichy had a solid game and a better game than Sagna. Hulk and Valero were taking turns at turning Sagna inside out. Why should Clichy be mentioned for the first goal. He’s one out against a very quick Porto player who put in a bad cross and Fabianski decided to get an assist next to his name. I really think Eboue should be 1st choice RB. He isn’t as good as Sagna defensively, but not much worse. Offensively he’s the best RB in the Premier League. I hate to say it, but I have a top 3 list of the worst keepers in the world and Arsenal has all 3 of them. This really is the only reason why we’re sitting 3rd and not clear 1st.
wenger get the fuck out,i was deceived and totally wrong a bout wenger.i thought he is the genuis, but now he proved all the world that when he looses he find some one to blame ,he never blamed his ass,he done many mistakes,1st Eboue should be the number one RB,dont even know why he signed Sagna (cuz he is french),2nd Mannonea showed that he suppose to be the first GK,almunia is the worst GK in the whole EPL.fabianski should deported to poland,.wat Denilson doing at the arsenal squad,he is horrible,Bendtner cant even control the ball ,gosh,Eduardo is 99% handicapped and mister wenger keep his stubberness from not signing a striker come on give me a fuckin break,we use to be a great team not because of wenger cuz we have HENRY,VIERA,BERGKAM,Kanu, david seamon,Robert pires,Overmars,Gelberto .now they are gone and we are trophiless since than ,so its time for the sheap ass wenger to root out all the team and go for shopping this summer for a grown players ,we are not a day care place we a are ARSENAL ,
wat can i say about this game? just nothing!nothing!nothing!please get rid of AW.
Tounsi, srsly stfu, u sound like a complete tool, the 2nd goal should never have stood so Wenger has every right to complain
tounsi, fuck off to spelling classes
Arsenal’s elegant performance was disrupted by the rough plays of Porto. How many times was fabregas a victim to many fouls. Porto got four yellows, indicating their rough display. Arsenal has to succumb simply to the unfortunate mistakes of Fabianski
OMG…that was absolute craziness…campbell was our man today..the rest…they did not even want to play football..they were all lazy…when we were hit on counters…some were even walking…and why the fuck our full backs cant cross???clichy is not at all performing right now..!!!!!Porto arent that good…We were totally outplayed though…how come??? I guess we should revert to 4-4-2…nikky B but he is no rooney do the drog…or maybe..i dont know…
whoever blames wenger now for nou signing anyone etc..can go f*** himself because we have a very good and talented team…we are just NOT performing!
GUNNER TILL I DIE
I agree with some of your ratings ( absolutely agree with Fabianski).
But there is no way that Fabregas and Sol deserved the same rating.
Sol was a mountain in defence and tucked in with a crucial away goal.
Fabregas did not inspire the team as he should . And Rosicky 6.5 ? Same as Campbell?
You my friend was certainly lazy with your ratings.
You’re all mad, you doubters.
It’s football, not ProEvo Soccer or FIFA2010; they are real people, not machines. Things happen, mistakes, moments of brilliance, disappointing performances, howlers, top corner screamers, bad ref decisions, crazy free-kicks – it’s what makes football worth following. Step back and read what you have written and have a good think. We should back this team and the manager till we bleed, right to the end of the last minute of the last game of every season.
Arsenal For Life.
A coach is as his last result for now wenger is not good untill he change his philosophy that has shown no progresion for the past 4 years wenger has forgoten the set of players he when he went 49 games unbeaten is totaly different from the ones he posses now
Hi your analysis is a trial but I think Campbell deserved more. fabregas and nasri were slow in decision to shoot! I think wenger need not foll a ficked pecking order for keepers. At the moment we do not have space to try luck with the lower cadre and i’d rather we maintain MA but next season start with VM and the Sec.z….
tounsi, shut up…. Sagna is a fantastic right back. And you say we had a fantastic team with “HENRY,VIERA,BERGKAM,Kanu, david seamon,Robert pires,Overmars,Gelberto” (by the way, if your going to support a team you should really know how to spell the players names!!!!) minus bergkamp and seaman wenger bought all those players so yes he did have a part in our fantastic team!
Yes i agree maybe that we need another forward as Eduardo is not the same as he was (yet) and van persie is injury prone but we still have a great team. Just been unlucky in a few games and people do make mistakes. its a human thing unfortunatly.
I think Wengers lost the plot , Beckhams playing great, Scholes scores first goal for Utd, Giggsy s been fantastic , our manager shipped out PV, HENRY , FREDDIE, BOBBY P. the invincible at 35 SOL was our best player , SACK ,WENGER , he never played football late in his own career , does not undestand the resurgence you get back ……………
